Great Red Euganean Wines Improvement Project
The Colli Euganei (Euganean Hills) area is a territory in the Veneto Region with a high viticultural vocation, historically focused on red wines based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The GREWIP project aims to improve the great Euganean red wines, becoming a point of reference for improving the strategic positioning of Veneto wines, with an interactive innovation model based on cooperation and participation, to improve the culture of wine excellence in the Colli Euganei area, which underpins the development of high-quality offerings in the production of red wines. This involves applying specific production protocols for the area, designed, monitored, and evaluated through co-decision and co-creation processes involving partner farms, consultants, researchers, a trade union, and the Consortium, as well as activating imitative paths in companies outside the partnership. The project aims to experiment with a model never before applied, which can be transferred to other areas of the Veneto region.
In fact, the operational group set up for the implementation of the GREWIP project aims to implement, in a limited area that could then become a model, an innovative activity, not limited to academic study, involving a significant group of producers and technicians by activating a participatory process, involving the world of research, consultancy, and training, aimed at developing a model of knowledge and competence production of the bottom-up or space-based type. A model, therefore, that represents the realization of an Agricultural Knowledge Innovation System (AKIS), thus the development/application model of innovations that the CAP (Article 15 of reg. 2115/2021) and the Rural Development Complement (CSR) of the Veneto Region identify as essential for achieving the objectives of the CAP itself.
The project’s leader is the Consorzio Volontario per la Tutela dei Vini Colli Euganei (Voluntary Consortium for the Protection of Colli Euganei Wines).
The project draws on the expertise of various specialized technicians (Dr. Stenico Daniele, Dr. Busatto Guido, Dr. Giannone Filippo, Dr. Scortegagna Filippo), several wineries in the Euganean Hills area (Bacco e Arianna, Cà Baù, Vigna Ròda, Le Volpi & Monte Fasolo, Soc. Agricola Veronese), and the partnership of Centro Interdipartimentale per la Ricerca in Viticoltura ed Enologia (CIRVE) e Impresa Verde Padova Srl.
